Total Knee Replacement performed in Government Hospital Sarwal

Total Knee Replacement was performed in Government hospital Sarwal on 60 years old female having osteoarthritis knee joints using latest technique and implant under Ayushman Bharat Scheme under the overall supervision of Director Health Services, Jammu Dr Saleem-ul-Rehman. Surgery was performed by consultant orthopaedics Dr Nipun Kalsotra, anaesthesia was given by Dr Vishal Gupta and Dr Anu Manhas and assisted by other OT team members under the guidance of Medical superintendent Government hospital Sarwal Dr Vijay Raina. This Patient was suffering from severe osteoarthritis of knee joints for the past 10 years and could barely walk few steps due to severe pain in knee joints. Her right knee joint was having severe varus deformity and was not able to completely bend or straighten her right knee. Surgery was performed using latest technique with minimal blood loss. Patient was made to walk the next day of surgery. The surgery was performed free of cost under PMJAY scheme. Dr Nipun Kalsotra informed that this surgery was performed using latest technique and implant, which usually costs around 3 to 4 lakhs in private hospitals out of state but patients can avail this free of cost under government’s PMJAY scheme in Government Hospital Sarwal. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Nipun Kalsotra has done fellowship in joint replacement, arthroscopy and sport injuries from Germany and is regularly performing arthroscopic (button hole) joint surgeries for the last few years in Government hospital Sarwal and have also started specialised sport injuries OPD every Wednesday.
